The many uses of Kydex
Together with the advisers from Vink, companies continuously find new ways to use existing plastic materials. An example is Kydex, the extremely durable acrylic/PVC alloy. |

Kydex is an extremely durable acrylic/PVC alloy, extruded in a range of textures, thicknesses and grades. It optimises long-term performance, appearance and cost-effectiveness across demanding and diverse end-use applications. Additionally, Kydex meets some of the most demanding fire ratings and is resistant to a wide range of concentrated chemicals. These characteristics made it the material of choice for the designers of four very different products, which we showcase here.
Surfacing of tables, benches and bar In the Hague, Holland, De Leeuw Shop Design used Kydex to decorate the interior of a snack bar. Table tops, benches and the bar were all covered by the durable sheet. De Leeuw Shop Design appreciates Kydex especially as it's so flexible and easy to work with. |

Plane trolleys Because of high safety standards, the aviation industry is one of the most tightly regulated. Before a material can be used in aircraft, it needs to be tried and tested extensively. Kydex is one of those high quality materials which meets the required standards and is used for several interior components in planes. A new application is the inside cladding of food trolleys. The thermoformed parts are glued to the bottom as well as the sides of the trolleys. |

Hospital wall cladding In the Dutch city of Doetinchem, a hospital used Kydex for wall cladding because of its impact strength, chemical resistance and because it's easy to clean. The laminated Kydex sheets were glued to the walls in waiting rooms and hallways. It will prevent the walls from damages and costly maintenance. |

The flexibility of Kydex Kydex offers extraordinary design flexibility by membrane pressing. That makes it the perfect material to make any design. Membrane pressing is accomplished by pressing a heated plastic sheet onto a flat or contoured wood substrate, using a membrane. This causes the sheet to conform to all top and side surfaces of the substrate. Compound curves can be achieved to resemble solid surfacing or to create seamless three-dimensional shapes. The material is tough and easy to clean, even with tough cleaners that could stain or fade other materials. It´s also very safe, as it carries a range of fire ratings for commercial, public and industrial buildings. |
